Ambitious Career Woman,
...To Avoid A Lawsuit

Early in 2003, Ambitious Career Woman won the "Cutest Band in Seattle" award. Dopy-eyed downers at Camp Emo? Sexy jocks with Sensitivity and a Heart of Gold who strum guitars and beg for redemption in the wake of cheating after Big Games and Tear-Jerking Arguments? Dumb rock, MTV looks?

Hardly.

Ambitious Career Woman presents an angular driving punk rock, drawing on hardcore and post-punk aesthetics more than a more melody-driven sound. Adam McKinnon shouts his vocals in classic rhythmic fashion most of the time, but an occasional sweet sweaty croon pops up now and then. While ACW occasionally falls into somewhat overdone tactics of the genre such as starting a song with the same riff slowly played over and over until an eventual buildup and inevitable catharsis, they more than redeem themselves by here and there incorporating surf guitar (think Paul Johnson or Dick Dale), something nearly unheard of in punk/hardcore music. Lujo Records, thank you for presenting a cute band as enjoyable to listen to as they are to fawn over.
